Sunrise on the last morning at Tuross Heads – perfection. But time to pack up, clean up, and head to Canberra.
The coastal route took us first to Bingey Bingey Point – an aboriginal site where nomadic people had gathered long ago. The views – north and south – are astounding. En route, we drove along dry fields and forests to find small kangarros hopping across and larger ones lingering in the shade of the trees.
We headed to Bateman’s Bay and a cup of coffee on the quay. It was gorgeous as a river cruise set out, and the bridge was raised; a tempting catamaran for hire was anchored nearby. Not to linger, we returned to the car and continued north.
The road winds about the escarpment as we reached the plateau. Humidity fell away and the breeze picked up. In Braidwood, we stopped for lunch…The bakery bread was delicious and Eric found a steak pie.
An around town wander discovered a miniature train/ car shop…and a wonderful store for quilting fabrics. There was a gender split in the wander.
We arrived in Canberra in late afternoon – a stunning planned city with majestic government buildings, promenades and public parks. Tomorrow…more to explore.
